Last weekend during the FOSDEM 2010, we planned to release our first technical preview of VLMC.
This version will be tagged as the 0.0.1 and will be made available for Windows and Unix.
- February 17th: Feature Freeze
- March 3rd: String Freeze
- March 24th: Release (estimated)
Some explanations about these terms:
- Feature Freeze means that no new features will be accepted in the trunk after that date, only bug fixes and improvements of existing features will be merged.
- String Freeze is the deadline where all the visible strings of the interface can not be changed. This ensures for the translators that they won’t have to rush during the hours that precedes the release.
Please note that this will be a preview and many key features will be missing (or even buggy).
In the meantime you can help us to squash bugs and send some patches !

Website is offline since 2010-02-18. Is this because feature freeze…?
No, we had an hardware failure on our main server.
We are currently moving our old infrastructure on videolan.org and it can take some time.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience.
Very nice blog! Bookmarked
I have to say….I am a very newbie to the Movie Creator World and I am very excited to try this out. I have tried to get the source and compile on my Windows box but found it hard and couldn’t get it totally. I am looking forward to the release of the alpha/beta soon.
I’m also newbie … and im struggling to learn how to Compile it for XP.
I downloaded cygwin and read and watched videos about Git , but i just dont know how to do it.
I found a description on compiling VLC and VLMC from Git in Ubuntu:
http://www.webupd8.org/2009/12/how-to-build-videolan-movie-creator.html
Linux terminal and i have Cygwin. Would u be kind enough to show me the commands to do it with Cygwin?
I’m Excited i think this editor is going to eclipse windows movie maker which IMO is excellent, however there is not way to Pin Clips to the Time line as there is on VLCM !
I cant wait,
Very Excited
THANKING ALL U PROGRAMMERS FOR VLMC !
Im a newbee, I installed ubuntu in order to build vlmc from the source. Im now dual booting Ubuntu/ XP … Ubuntu works great! It will be my platform once i transfer over all my files.
So far i’v had to learn:
* Install and use ubuntu
* What is git
* what is source code
* what and how to compile
* moving around Linux terminal
I hope i will be able to compile the thing. I’m using come online guides. I know i have to get the latest vlc and all its packages compile it, then get latest vlmc and compile it.
Again to u Hackers thanks again for VLMC , I think it will be the No 1 Movie maker. REALLY ITS A PUBLIC SERVICE!
A set of educator eyes – enthused by the project and looking forward to its released.
If our students (11-16) can help in testing, let us know. They are young, ICT passionate and openly honest and perhaps more open minded than adults (I include myself there too).
Has anyone heard anything lately?
Hi, are there any news regarding VLMC? When could we expect a first public version?
Yes, we’re working on it but keep in mind that we are only two developers at the moment. So please wait some more days.
Thanks a lot for you answer. I simply can’t wait to try it out.
I hope I’ll be able to help at least with testing, workflow ideas and knowledge about multimedia processing. Unfortunately I’m afraid I won’t be able to help with any real code since I only know PHP and Python.
Many Thanks Etix, Looking forward to this project with much anticipation, as i think is the entire movie sub-culture. VLC simply rocks, so the thought of a similar quality of thought going into a movie editor is simply awesome. ….if there anywhere we can donate funds, so that you can get another developer on board or simply buy a few bevvies while your working?
I am so appreciative of all the work going into this. I wish i were able to help but i dont have the skills to program.
Thanks again its appreciated,
john
